5 Live Music Musts: January 24, 2014

Check out blues guitarist and singer Joe Lewis Walker at the 1st Annual Winter Blues Festival at the Narrows Canter tomorrow night.
Saturday night’s alright for rockin’ this weekend as we focus on five shows all happening tomorrow night. With all this music, there’s no excuse to stay in!

Fiddlers and Fishermen

We begin tomorrow night with a Gathering of Fiddlers and Fishermen at Common Fence Music in Portsmouth. It’s the 15th annual gathering and it’s hosted by MC Tom Duksta. Be prepared for an open mic tribute to the sea, with storytelling, sea shanty’s and more! The revelry begins at 6:30PM, tickets are $15. Get them here, as it is nearing a sell-out.

Pendragon in Bristol

Another nearby coffeehouse will be rocking to the sounds of traditional Irish rockers Pendragon. Bristol’s Stone Church Coffeehouse has the well-know Celtic group appearing tomorrow night at 7:30PM. The band has been around for 30 years and continues to evolve; well worth a listen if you haven’t seen them in a while. The show is at the First Congregational Church, 300 High St. in Bristol. Tickets are $15, students are half price and kids under 5 are free.

Winter Blues Fest

If Blues is more your taste, head to the Narrows Center tomorrow for their 1st Annual Winter Blues Festival which is guaranteed to knock your socks off. It’s an early start with seven hours of music beginning at 5PM.

The Speakeasy at Local 121

Local 121 in Providence has a great line-up Saturday night including a rock band from Texas along with some local favorites. Dylan Sevey and the Gentlemen headline a show which includes Western Star, The Stilts, and Consuelo’s Revenge. Texas bred Western Star recently toured with the Old 97s, so you know you’re in for a good time. These artists are young and hungry; there’s rock and folk and more! Show starts around 10PM, tickets are only $5.

Cash and Cline

Finally, we offer up a roots-rock-country show tomorrow night that promises to be a lot of fun. The Stadium Theatre in Woonsocket has a Cash-Cline tribute featuring two of the best known impersonators of Johnny Cash and Patsy Cline. Terry Lee Goffee (Cash) and Josie Waverly (Cline) have been widely recognized for their “spot on” performances. The show starts at 8PM, tickets start at $21.
