Newport Jazz at the Fort
It’s Jazz Festival weekend at Fort Adams State Park and as always the line-up is impressive. The Festival continues its longstanding tradition of bringing established stars and young guns to the Fort. Headliners include Norah Jones, Chick Corea, Kamasi Washington and Gregory Porter. Jazz at the Hall of Fame
The Jazz Festival’s evening show at the Tennis Hall of Fame is always a very special event. This year, tonight's show includes Gregory Porter, a Grammy winning Jazz Vocalist, professional actor and a former college football player. He’s only been recording since 2010 and this weekend he’ll take the stage along with the Chick Corea Trilogy. Corea’s mates include Festival Artistic Director Christian McBride and drummer Brian Blais, making it probably the most talented trio in jazz music today. Nuff said. George Thorogood
What are two things that go perfect together? Indian Ranch and George Thorogood in the summer. In a GoLocal interview last year, Thorogood shared “I hit that first chord, the band kicks in, and we hear the audience respond – that’s the rush. Over 40 years into this and every night is still the only moment that matters.” Famous for songs like “Move it on Over,” and “Bad to the Bone,” the guitarist will be playing with his band Sunday afternoon at Indian Ranch in Webster, MA. Joe Ely
Joe Ely is a Texas troubadour, a roots music veteran who has played with everyone from Bruce Springsteen to the Chieftains. His music includes elements of honky-tonk, Texas country, Tex-Mex and rock and roll. He impressed mightily last week at Newport Folk, and we encourage you to check him out tomorrow night at the Narrows Center. Neal McCarthy opens the show around 8PM – ticket information here.
Silverteeth
Silverteeth is a big part of the growing indie music scene in Newport. RI native Bill Bartholomew has returned to the state after living 10 years in Brooklyn, NY. Along with partner Gabriela Rassi, the band creates a buoyant rock sound borrowing a little from 90’s alternative bands like The Cranberries and Sonic Youth. Catch them tonight at Pour Judgement in Newport. Show starts around 9:30.
