Allysen Callery Saturday
Award winning Bristol, RI singer-songwriter Allysen Callery is back with a new release The Song the Songbird Sings, a charming new album that is getting a lot of attention in folk circles. The “ghost folk” artist sings “quiet music for a loud world” something very much needed these days. She’ll be at Sandywoods along with her daughter Ava Callery and Vudu Sister, another favorite local band, who also just released a new album. Expect some special surprises and plan to pick up new CD’s from both artists Saturday night at Sandywoods. Details here. (Album Art: Daria H.)
Low Anthem Saturday
One of RI’s premier indie bands is back with a new release this week. Eyeland, the new album from The Low Anthem, is already receiving stellar reviews in the indie and mainstream press. Tomorrow night’s show is scheduled for the Columbus Theatre, the venue partially run by members of the band, where the album was recorded. There’s nothing more homegrown than a hometown show in your own theatre, with a new album recorded on your own studio – how often does that happen? Openers include local favorites Hot Boyz and Food Court. Show is at 8PM, tickets only $10.
Potenza at RI PrideFest
On the heels on the recent tragedy in Florida, RI Pridefest has their annual event this weekend and the musical line up is spectacular. Headliner Sarah Potenza will bring her heart and soul to the Festival like she did a year ago when she was a contestant on NBC's The Voice. The 40th anniversary of Pridefest means great music, over 150 vendors, and the popular illuminated night parade. Musical performers include Nina Sky and country singer Glenn Stewart. Summer Solstace Festival
The Blackstone River Theatre brings top folk, roots and Celtic musicians to Cumberland all year long. They host their 6th annual Summer Solstice Festival tomorrow from 11AM-7PM at Diamond Hill Park in Cumberland. Performers include Girsa (pictured), Pendragon, and Barrule, a band traveling all the way from the Isle of Man in the UK. There will be music all day long, kids activities, vendors and more. Adult tickets are $15, Seniors $10, children 6-15, $5, and children 5 are free. Click here for details.
Ziggy Marley Sunday
The summer concert season is just getting starting at Indian Ranch, a classic old fashioned venue by the lake in Webster, MA. The Ranch has a complete line up of rock, blues, country and reggae this summer and is a fun place to catch a show on a weekend afternoon. Start this Sunday with the great Ziggy Marley and his band. The show begins at 2PM with opening act Roots of Creation. Tickets and further details available here.
