Carly Rae Jepsen at Fete
The “Gimmie Love Tour” starring Canadian pop singer Carly Rae Jepsen arrives at Fete in Providence next Wednesday March 23. The singer-songwriter, best known for her 80’s inspired chart-topper “Call Me Maybe,” recently appeared on the live Fox production of "Grease," where she played “Frankie.” She also sings “Everywhere You Look,” the theme song of the popular Netflix series “Fuller House.” Opening Acts Cardinox and Fairground Saints will get the party started. Tickets are $25 for the 7PM show.
The Naticks
Three young bands headline tonight at Hope Events on Main, in the Hope Artiste Village in Pawtucket. The Naticks, a rock band born and bred in RI, headline the show which also includes The Fates and The River Provides. The concert is produced by Level Exchange, a community organization based in Providence, with a goal to “re-define local.” Their mission is to schedule concerts in local businesses, including non-traditional venues like Sunday’s show planned at Flipp Salon. It’s a great concept, and one more reason to get out and support local music and local businesses. The Hope on Main show begins at 7:30. Tickets $12 here.
Grand Funk Railroad
Classic rock fans won’t want to miss this show tonight at the Twin River Events Center. Two definitive 70’s bands, Grand Funk Railroad and The Guess Who share the bill. GFR is known for ”I’m Your Captain (Take Me Home)” and “An American Band,” a legitimate 70’s anthem, while The Guess Who are one of the greatest bands ever to come out of Canada. Hits like “No Time,” “These Eyes,” and American Woman,” are FM radio staples, south and north of the border. Show begins at 7PM, a few tickets remain starting at $40.
Chachi Carvalho
A great night of music is scheduled tonight at The Spot, a popular downtown club. Award winning RI native Chachi Carvalho and the International Players bring a unique style of Cape Verdean hip hop, chronicled on the 2013 album Cape Verdean in America. Carvalho is an experimental artist known for fusing different styles including reggae, house, jazz and blues. Viva La Hop, a funk/jazz/hip-hop band from Boston opens the show. It’s an 18+ show beginning around 9PM. Tickets $10 in advance, $12 at the door.
Jazz at Aurora
Sunday night, Aurora is hosting a night of great jazz, featuring sax players Dave Murphy and Leland Baker. The show is part of a new series, Jazz Revelations, which kicks off this weekend. Sunday’s performance is billed as an homage to sax legends John Coltrane and Eric Dolphy, both known for experimentation and improvisation. Show begins at 8PM, tickets are $5.
