Three Nights at Sandywoods
We start Memorial Day weekend at Sandywoods in Tiverton with three great nights of music ahead. Tonight brings acclaimed Australian blues/roots rocker Mia Dyson. Tickets are $12/$15 with the show beginning at 8PM. Tomorrow night, check out Boston singer-songwriter Les Sampou. Tickets are $18/$20 with Les taking the stage at 8PM. And on Sunday, it’s an outdoor Pete Seeger Memorial show featuring a number of top area artists. It begins at 5PM, there’s no charge, but donations accepted for the Hudson River Sloop Clearwater.
Three Nights at the Columbus
The Columbus Theatre in Providence has a trifecta of eclectic performers this weekend beginning tonight with a three act line up ofMinibeast, Arborea, andAllysen Callery. Tickets are $10. Tomorrow night, its roots singer-guitaristMichael Hurley. Tickets are $15 in advance, $17 at the door. Then on Memorial Day, check out Tara Jan O’Neil with Arch Cape opening. Tickets are $10. Doors for all shows open at 8PM, shows begin at 9PM.
Also tonight, start the long weekend tonight at the Ocean Mist in Matunuck with RI’s top party band Steve Smith and the Nakeds. The RI Music Hall of Famers are always a good time, and with their induction a year ago into the RI Music Hall of Fame, as tight and rocking as ever. The band takes the stage at 9:30PM.
Blackstone River Theatre
Tomorrow, the Blackstone River Theatre has a night of Brazilian music featuring Choro Das 3. The group is actually a quartet that includes father Eduardo and his three daughters on traditional acoustic instruments. The band, well known is Brazil, plays a style of urban jazz known as “Choro,” a blend of ragtime and bluegrass. Tickets are $15 for the 8PM show.
Rod Stewart and Santana at Mohegan Sun
Sunday night is a rare chance to catch two Rock and Roll Hall of Fame artists in one place. Mohegan Sun has the legendary Rod Stewart along with guitar great Carlos Santana and his band. The double bill is a perfect way to spread the good vibes this Memorial Day weekend. Tickets begin at $125 and the music begins at 7:30.
Boston Calling Music Festival is a three-day, two-stage festival featuring some of the biggest and best acts in live music. The event will be one big party with easy access to both stages, food, services and more. All ages are welcome and children under 10 are free.
Presented by the Wormtown Trading Company, the Strange Creek Campout features live music, on-site camping, disc golf, yoga, a holistic village, and the Strangers Helping Strangers Food Drive.

Gathering of the Vibes is an annual music, arts and camping festival now in its 19th year. Vibes has grown into a four-day festival that has featured such world-class talent as Crosby, Stills and Nash; all original members of the Grateful Dead; the Allman Brothers Band; Jane's Addiction; James Brown; the Black Crowes; Buddy Guy; Elvis Costello; George Clinton and P-Funk; Bruce Hornsby; Les Claypool; and many, many more big names, while continuing to showcase extraordinarily talented, young, up-and-coming bands to the 20 thousand people who attend each year.
Folk music has been a presence in Newport since 1959, when the Newport Folk Festival was founded by George Wein. Backed by board members Pete Seeger, Theodore Bikel, Oscar Brand, and Albert Grossman, the Festival became renowned for introducing a number of performers who went on to become major stars, most notably Joan Baez (who appeared as an unannounced guest of Bob Gibson in 1959), and Bob Dylan, whose first Newport appearance, as a guest of Joan Baez in 1963, is generally regarded as his premiere national performance.
Established in 1954, the Newport Jazz Festival begins its 60th year this August, one week after its sister event, the Newport Folk Festival, takes place. The first event was originally billed as "First Annual American Jazz Festival" and featured many notable jazz musicians, including Billie Holiday.
