Chicago + Earth Wind Fire

A double bill is on tap at the Dunkin Donuts Center Saturday night when two legendary bands - Chicago and Earth, Wind and Fire return to Providence. The two acts have toured together before and are expected to play separate sets before they come together for a grand encore. Expect to hear EWF classics like “Shining Star” and “Boogie Wonderland,” along with Chicago hits “Beginnings” and “Make Me Smile,” among others. A memorable concert awaits Saturday night at the Dunk. Blood Sweat and Tears

Blood, Sweat and Tears came together almost years ago as a jazz-rock fusion band, and featured a horn section that was second to none. The tradition continues behind a tight band and a show that now features the soulful sounds of American Idol star Bo Bice on lead vocals. Tickets are still available here for Sunday’s 8PM show at the Park Theatre in Cranston.

RI's Best in Woonsocket

Head to Woonsocket Saturday night for a show from three of RI’s all-time great bands, John Cafferty and Beaver Brown, Steve Smith and the Nakeds, and Roomful of Blues.  All three nationally recognized acts are members of the RI Music Hall of Fame and all three still know how to create magic on stage. Expect the boys to mix it up a bit on the Stadium Theatre stage tomorrow night. Tickets for the Rhode Island Music Legends Concert start at $20 here.

Laura Cantrell in Newport

Laura Cantrell is a Nashville born NYC based country singer-songwriter who has released several highly praised albums in recent years. She’s a storyteller in the fine tradition of country music, and in 2011 released “Kitty Wells Dresses: Songs Of the Queen of Country Music,” a tribute to a founding mother of country music.  She’ll be at the Salvation Café in Newport Saturday night at 8PM accompanied by bandmates Mark Spencer and Jimmy Ryan of the Blood Oranges. This is a rare opportunity to see Cantrell in the comfy confines of a small venue. Details here.

Gaelynn Lea at AS220

The coolest show this weekend features Gaelynn Lea, a violinist and 2016 winner of the NPR Tiny Desk concert series, a web based program featuring mainstream and independent artists. Lea was born with brittle bone disease, a rare congenital condition, and is active as an advocate for those with disabilities. Her artistry is absolutely hypnotic, and she headlines a show tonight in Providence at AS220 along with equally eclectic artists Alec K. Redfearn, Jess Klein and Haunt the House.
