Blasters at Firehouse 13
The Blasters play rock and roll the old fashioned way – with grit and swagger – no posing allowed here. Led by guitarist Phil Alvin, the band combines elements of blues, rockabilly, R&B and rock. Don’t even think of calling these guys old. They’ll eat you for breakfast, and spit you out after. But rest assured, you’ll have fun along the way. They play Firehouse 13 in Providence tonight along with some kick ass openers – The Delta Bombers from Las Vegas and RI's own Red Penny’s. More information here.
Chaka Khan at Twin River
The lovely and talented Chaka Khan comes to Twin River tonight. She’s famous for her 1970's hits with her band Rufus – songs that bring you back to a different time and place – like “Sweet Thing,” “I’m Every Woman,” and the totally funkified “Tell Me Something Good.” Khan has recorded in eight music genres, including R&B, jazz, pop, rock, gospel, country, classical and dance music. You can experience a little bit of that tonight at 8PM at the Twin River Events Center. More information here.
Jamestown Revival at Fete
Texas natives Zach Chance and Jonathan Clay are the principals behind roots rockers Jamestown Revival, and popular Americana band is playing tonight at Fete. Their debut album UTAH, recorded in a cabin in the Wasatch Mountains of Utah, was released in 2014 to great critical praise. Expect to hear some new tunes from their sophomore effort, The Education of a Wandering Man, released earlier this month. Johnny Fritz opens around 7:30. Ticket information here.
Henry Rollins at The Met
Henry Rollins is a kind of punk rock renaissance man. He was lead singer of the legendary punk band Black Flag in the 1980’s and later fronted the Rollins Band. He’s known for his spoken word performance and has also worked in TV and film through the years. He brings his show along with all his intensity to The Met Tuesday, November 1 at 9PM. Tickets are $25 and can be purchased here.
Ryley Walker at Columbus
Ryley Walker is a gifted singer-songwriter heavily influenced by British Isles folk and American primitivism. The Rockford, Illinois native has been compared to Van Morison for his lyricism, and John Fahey for his guitar work. To see what we mean, check out his new album, Golden Sings That Have Been Sung, released last August. Then head to the Columbus Theatre in Providence Sunday night. Tickets are $12 in advance for the 8PM show - Circuit des Yeux opens.
