Civil War Living History Weekend in Newport

Saturday-Sunday Commemorating the 150th Anniversary of the Civil War, Fort Adams in Newport is recreating the daily life of Civil War soldiers and civilians. The weekend will include demonstrations, drills and simulations of assaults on the Fort. The festivities will be open Saturday 10 am-5pm and Sunday 10am-2pm. Reenactment admission: $10 adults, $5 children (6-17) free 5 and under, $25 family (2 adults and up to 4 children). Underground tunnel tours (every 30 minutes): $4 adults, $2 children (6-17), $10 family. Half price readmission for Sunday. With questions, call 401-841-0707. 

Bohemia West in Providence

Friday-Sunday This weekend marks the world debut of Andy Kaufman's musical comedy, "Bohemia West." Written in 1964 when Kaufman was 15 years old, the satirical musical focuses on a teenager's musing of relations between the sexes and the concept of power. The showings are at 95 Empire Black Box. Shows Friday, Saturday and Sunday and 8 pm. $10 students/seniors, $12 general and a matinee Sunday at 2 pm pay what you can. For tickets and more information, go here.

Vaud and the Villains in Providence

Vaud and the Villains bring New Orleans '30s swing to the Fete Ballroom this weekend.
Friday  The 19 piece 1930’s New Orleans orchestra and cabaret show comes to Providence's Fete Ballroom. The "Friday the 13th Vaudeville Spectacular" features music that combines and transforms roots, traditional jazz, gospel, folk and parlor music. Fete Ballroom, 103 Dike St, Providence, doors open at 8pm, the show begins at 9pm and will end at midnight. Tickets $10 in advance and $12 at the door.

Audubon Journaling Among the Giants, North Smithfield

Saturday How about a peaceful Saturday of writing and sharing surrounded by natural inspiration? The nature journaling exercise is designed to focus on the beauty of the flora and fauna. Taking place at Fort Nature Refuge in North Smithfield from 2-4pm, registration is required and can be made at 401-949-5454 ext. 3041. Just come with a journal to write in, pens and pencils for writing and drawing, a water bottle, and an optional small pad to sit on. www.asri.org

Macbeth in Westerly

Friday-Saturday  Grab some lawn chairs and a picnic basket to enjoy the Colonial Theatre's Shakespeare Festival's production of one of the most popular (and bloody) of Shakespeare's works. The "Official Shakespeare Festival of Rhode Island's" performances take place outside in downtown Westerly at Wilcox Park's Colonial Theatre at 44 Broad Street. The show is recurring from July 11-July 29, Tuesday-Sunday at 8 pm. Admission is free. thecolonialtheater.org
