Spring at Blithewold, Bristol
Sunday It's Daffodil Days at Blithewold, and this Sunday you can bring the whole family to experience the beautiful spring grounds of Blithewold mansion and gardens with not only sight, but also smell, touch, and hearing. Reach out with your hands, breath in sweet nectar, wiggle your toes in the dirt, and listen for spring birds’ songs, and of course take in the colors of the flowers and plants all around. The Sensory Walk roams through the Blithewold grounds led by horticulturists, Gail Reed and Tricia Bailey. $8 for members, $12 for non-members, $5 for children. 1pm. Ivy Film Festival, Providence
Friday-Sunday The world’s largest student-run film festival is screening films at Brown University all weekend. Catch dramas, animations, experimental films, comedies, international shorts, and documentaries from students across the globe. From the story of a sculptor torn between the love for his muse and passion for his art, to a documentary about New York City sewers, from two friends’ wild and embarrassingly hilarious night out, to the daring escape of a Jewish boy from Russian Bounty Hunters, there’s a little something for everyone this weekend. In addition to the films, the IFF will host lectures and events including a Master Class in Screenwriting from Black Swan writer and Brown alum, Mark Heyman, a Bravo after-party, and a Keynote address from Wes Craven, director of the horror hits, “Scream,” and “A Nightmare on Elm Street”. Saturday Get out and exercise in the warmer weather this weekend with a relaxed 5K in southern RI. Run, walk, or cheer the athletes on from the sideline, and make sure to pick up a T-shirt. Proceeds from the event benefit the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute and Jimmy Fund to help fight cancer.
