Big Brothers Big Sisters Announces Two Promotions

The Board of Directors of Big Brothers Big Sisters of the Ocean State (BBBSOS) have announced promotions of Katje Afonseca to executive director and Lori Viner to director of operations and administration. 

“As we celebrate our 50th anniversary, we are pleased to have on board these two professionals who have the experience, capacity, dedication and leadership to move our organization forward. Over the years, both Katje and Lori have earned the respect of our board, staff, business partners, and the community, and we look forward to their continued success. The youth of Rhode Island, their families and the community at large count on us for mentoring over the next 50 years and beyond,” said Alison Reuter, president of BBBSOS’ Board of Directors.

Afonseca was promoted from director of development to executive director at BBBSOS. She will be responsible for ensuring the mission, strategy and goals of the organization while leading the operational, programmatic, talent management and fund development activities. 

Afonseca earned a bachelor of science degree in marketing from Johnson & Wales University in 2003. 

She is a resident of North Providence. 

Lori Viner 

Viner was promoted from operations director to director of operations and administration at BBBSOS. She will be responsible for leading daily operations of the Donation Center program, including collections, inventory/fleet management as well as logistics, customer service initiatives, and business partner and vendor relations. 

Viner is a 1992 graduate of the University of Rhode Island where she earned a bachelor of science degree in business administration/accounting. 

She is a resident of North Kingstown. 

Big Brothers Big Sisters of the Ocean State

Big Brothers Big Sisters of the Ocean State was established as Big Sisters of Rhode Island 50 years ago to provide friendship and guidance to at-risk girls. In 2011, the agency changed its name to Big Brothers Big Sisters of the Ocean State to more accurately reflect the services it provides to children.
