Brown University Freshmen Top 15 Happiest in the US

If you're a freshman at Brown University, then chances are you're incredibly happy. So happy, in fact, that first year students at Providence's Ivy League university are the 13th happiest in the nation, according to a CBS Moneywatch report citing US Department of Education freshman retention rates.

With a 97.5 percent first-year student retention rate, the College ranked #13 on the list of private U.S. colleges and universities with the highest percentage of freshmen who return as sophomores. A separate ranking was compiled from the US Department of Education's public colleges.

Brown was not the only New England school to make the top 15. Princeton University took top honors at #1, followed by Harvey Mudd College at #2, and Yale at #3. Harvard University came in at #6, College of the Holy Cross at #7, and Wesleyan University at #11. MIT came in right behind Brown at #14.

The East Coast dominated the list. Other New England schools to make the Top 25: Williams College came in at #18, Tufts University at #19, and Dartmouth College at #23.
