Carolyn Thomas-Davis: 15 to Watch in RI in 2015

Carolyn Thomas-Davis, who heads up OneVoice RI (which bills itself as "mobilizing, empowering and engaging communities throughout the State of Rhode Island...encouraging political awareness and involvement, on all levels of government") was an active force in Providence in 2014, and will no doubt be at the forefront of community issues in 2015.

Davis teamed up with Shana Weinberg from Brown University in December to hold a community forum on "Racism, State Oppression, and the Black Community: Ferguson and Beyond" at the South Side Cultural Center "to tackle race relations in a healthy & informative way...and to address the reality of oppression within Black/ impoverished communities and how we may realize a move forward."

Davis, who got her MBA from Johnson and Wales in 2005, is a not-for-profit accountant in the state.  Prior to the decision in Ferguson,  Davies wrote a Mindsetter piece for GoLocal in anticipation of the outcome.

"It is OK to be angry, we are human. But we must be clear minded in our approach. Consider taking the energy that may drive you to explore the following as options: Work tirelessly to build a sustainable program in the community, as a community; utilizing the communities own sweat equity, intellectual property and resources (great or small). We know what we need and "What We Want;" effectively communicate throughout the community ensuring a streamlined messaging among youth and adults alike; and allow the energy and solidarity to foster cohesiveness and unity among the community, and let the unrest serve as the catalyst to the change you seek and desire!"  Watch for Davis' continued role in the community in 2015.
