DIY Pedicures for Sandal Season
No time for a professional pedicure? Not to worry, follow our simple tips for fashionable feet, with products available locally!

To rid your tootsies of dead skin built up over the winter, use a foot scrub or pumice stone to slough your way to smooth. We like True Blue Spa Toe the Line Foot Scrub ($15 at Bath and Body Works, various locations in RI) or make your own scrub with olive oil and sea salt. Work ingredients together to form a thick paste, massage into feet and rinse.
Expert Tip: Scrub onto dry feet first then add water before rinsing.
Replenish
Fresh feet need moisture! Using foot cream before bed helps lock in moisture and keeps skin feeling replenished. Try Burt’s Bees Coconut Foot Cream ($9 at Whole Foods) or Kiehl’s Since 1851 Intensive Treatment Moisturizer for Dry or Callused Areas ($23-$47, Nordstrom at Providence Place Mall).
Expert Tip: Slather cream all over feet and put socks on to bed. Too hot for socks? Wait 10 minutes before getting under the sheets to ensure absorption.
Renovate
Get rid of unsightly cuticles with cuticle remover. Simply dab a bit onto each toe and wait 2-3 minutes, then gently push away with a cuticle pusher. We love Sally Hansen Cuticle Remover Gel with Built-In Cuticle Pusher Tip ($4.99 at CVS) or Boots Original Formula Cuticle Oil ($4.99 at Target).
Expert Tip: Do not cut your cuticles! Pushing and moisturizing are the best ways to care for those delicate areas.
Refresh
The toes know no boundaries when it comes to color, so fear nothing. Hot colors this summer are bright colors and jewel tones. A couple we can’t wait to try are Essie Tart Deco, a tantalizing coral ($8, Facing Thayer) and OPI’s Hong Kong Collection Jade is the New Black, a feisty green ($9, Christiaan Salon and Day Spa, Providence).
Expert Tip: To keep color going, use a base coat and topcoat to sandwich the color in and extend its wear. Pack your color in your bag for emergency chip fixes.
Reap
Get out there and reap the rewards of a successful at-home feet treat! And buy some new sandals!
