Donate a Tree to Honor a Veteran

There are few finer ways to honor an individual than by planting a tree in his or her honor. How fitting to combine this idea with honoring Rhode Island men and women serving in the Armed Forces.

Trees Honoring Troops, a new program offered by The Rhode Island Tree Council, does just this. Under the program, a tree "purchased" by a donor for $275, can be designated to honor a past or present member of the United States Armed Services, and those members can be active, veterans, or fallen. The tree will be planted in either a public park of cemetery located in Rhode Island, and the Council will care for the tree for three years.

According to the Tree Council, the tree may be for shade or ornament, based on the site where it will be planted, and will be between eight and ten feet tall at planting time. Donors can decide the location, or leave that up to the Council.
