Don't Miss: Providence's Coolest Summer Art Festival

Nothing screams summer like art festivals, and on June 12th the Providence Art Festival will take Downcity by storm.

The festival is slated to be an exciting celebration of local artists, music, and food. Westminster Street, from Dorrance to Matthewson, will be closed down to traffic for the entire day and filled with vendors and street performers. In a time of lingering economic uncertainty, this festival is a bold testament to the importance of local artists and urban renewal in a city that has made itself known as a creative capital.

This year's festival features local juried artists selling photography, paintings, accessories, clothing, stationery, preserves, and other handmade goods. On the food scene, United BBQ, Ebisu Restaurant, El Rancho Grande, Like No Udder Ice Cream, Tina’s Jamaican, The Yum Yum Truck, and Tazza will be serving up delicious edibles for festivalgoers.

Performers include Big Nazo, Lion Dancers, RI Kung Fu, Double Decker Dance Band, Ben Cooley Hall, Ben Pilgrim, and Thea Hopkins. The event’s organizers, Joanna Levitt and Jennifer Neuguth, promise that the festival will be family friendly, with a free kids’ craft table provided by OOP!

The Providence Art Festival is sponsored by In Downcity, Cornish Associates, OOP!, Providence Monthly, WBRU, and the Providence Foundation. The festival runs from 10:30am to 6pm. For more information, visit www.indowncity.com/news and www.oopstuff.com.
