Fit for life: You Were Built for This

We are living in a state of uncertainty, and sometimes NOT knowing about what’s going to happen is scarier than if we knew.
We are getting tired; some are losing hope and some already feel defeated. But I want you to stop for a moment, look at our history, and realize that humans are built to overcome adversity, solve problems, and conquer obstacles that get in our way.

One that we will overcome, and in time will forget how difficult and draining this was for us all.
Let’s take a look back at history and the evolutions we have been through as human beings.
Prehistoric man had to hunt, gather, seek shelter and avoid predators in order to survive.
In these times humans had to adapt to their surroundings and deal with the elements or we would perish.
We weren’t born with built-in protection such as thick skin, claws, fangs, excessive speed, or nocturnal vision and heightened senses like some animals.
Instead, we needed to be resourceful, and think outside the box in order to thrive, but we did it, and we prevailed!!
Revolutionary war soldiers had to brave the snow and elements to fight for our freedom. They were outnumbered, outgunned and out financed, however we tapped into that box of resources, figured out how to defeat the Brits, and came out victorious.
It was sheer will, drive, discipline, and strategy that helped us prevail, and that's what it will take in this present day to do the same.
During The Civil War Americans had to fight and kill each other. We were a divided nation, and although we were all from the same country, we fought and wiped out 620,000 fellow American soldiers because our political leaders couldn’t reach an agreement. This should have been a lesson but look at the state of the nation today. You see the same bullshit happening amongst politicians and they are dividing us as opposed to bringing the country together.
Hopefully, we can look back and learn a lesson from the past, keep evolving for the better, and not let history repeat itself.
The great depression and World War 2 gave birth to “The greatest generation” and brought our country together, and stronger than ever. People rallied by donating steel, volunteering for those in need, and became proud, selfless Americans during this time.
The Great Depression left people homeless, hungry, and out in the cold, but we never gave up. We also had great leadership that brought the nation together, making us realize that we were stronger as a whole, and it would take unity to prevail.
And that’s just what we did. We prevailed through tough times.
I heard stories about these times from my grandfather when I was going up, and he couldn’t be any prouder to be an American.
Soldiers in combat during all eras of life were designed to suffer, endure pain, be resourceful, and do whatever it takes to not only survive, but to come out of every situation victorious, and that’s the mindset we need to adopt today.
We made it through 9/11.
We made it through the housing market crash.
And we will make it through this too.
We just can’t get complacent and accept defeat.
What we can do is avoid complacency, stop feeling entitled, and stop waiting for someone to save us.
It’s up to us to be defensive, stay away from other people, protect yourself by wearing a face mask, gloves, sanitizing your hands and in general, doing your part to prevent prolonging this situation.
We also need to play some offense too, by taking care of ourselves from within, both physically and mentally.
Keep or start working out, staying hydrated, eating healthy food, and getting the required rest and recovery. Mentally, we need to limit our exposure to the news and any other negative commentary that surrounds us all.
Keep a positive mindset, keep yourself busy, lower your expectations, enhance faith in yourself, and don’t wait for the man on the white horse to come and save you.
Cavemen didn’t get government bailouts, and they survived.
Tyrannosaurus Rex isn’t walking down your street, so I have the utmost confidence that we will survive and prevail from this too.
Stay safe and healthy,
Coach Matt
