Gov. Carcieri Proclaims October Arts and Humanities Month

Gov. Don Carcieri has declared October 2010 as Arts and Humanities Month in Rhode Island, which corresponds to the national Arts and Humanities Month proclaimed by President Obama. In the official proclamation from his office, Gov. Carcieri recognized that “the State of Rhode Island has clear evidence that the arts and humanities contribute significantly to our quality of life, the education of our citizens and the economy of our state.”

Arts Councils Pleased

“The arts and humanities are the heart and soul of life here in Rhode Island,” said Randall Rosenbaum, Executive Director of the Rhode Island State Council on the Arts. “We appreciate the Governor’s proclamation, and encourage all Rhode Islanders to attend arts and cultural events this month and every month, and support what our state’s artists and humanists have to offer.”

Mary-Kim Arnold, Executive Director of the Rhode Island Council for the Humanities, said, "We are reminded daily that our state needs vision, creativity, and an actively-engaged population to keep moving forward. Education in the arts and humanities supports vibrant communities and informed civic dialogue. We thank Governor Carcieri for acknowledging the importance of the arts and humanities to Rhode Island."
