Highlander Institute CEO Rubin Earns National Award for Contributions to Personalized Learning

Highlander Institute CEO Shawn Rubin was presented with the Outstanding Individual Contribution to Personalized Learning Award by the International Association for K-12 Online Learning (iNACOL).

“The educator to watch, Shawn is relentless in his pursuit to change the educational system from the ground up in order to move the needle for students, especially underprivileged urban students in Rhode Island. As Highlander Institute’s Chief Education Officer, Shawn has forever changed the organization by promoting the power of blended and personalized learning and how, together, these two innovative approaches to teaching are creating student-centered environments at scale across the state,” said Dana Borrelli-Murray, Executive Director, Highlander Institute.

Rubin was given the award at iNACOL’s national symposium in Orlando on October 25.

About Rubin

Rubin manages the Institute’s personalized and blended learning initiatives, acting as a lightning rod for best practices that place students at the center of their learning.

He also leads the Institute’s Fuse RI Fellowship and co-founded EdUnderground, EdTechRI, and Metryx, a start-up software company building flexible formative assessment tools for educators where he serves as CEO.

Before joining the Highlander Institute, Rubin was a founding faculty member of the Highlander Charter School.

The Award

The Outstanding Individual Contribution to Personalized Learning Award is made to an individual whose insight and innovation has significantly increased the credibility and advancement of K-12 personalized, competency-based education.
