Fake a Summer Tan

If you haven’t had a chance to hit the beach or pool or your skin and the sun do not get along, there are various ways to fake a sun kissed summer tan that will have you ready to glow and go! Check out the possibilities to fake it:

Bronzer has been around for a long time but there is a reason for that: it does the trick! The key is to use it sparingly as too much will have you looking more cooked and less kissed. Some bronzers we simply go golden for are: Bahama Mama by The Balm ($19, The Apothecary Newport) or Sonia Kashuk Loose Powder Bronzer ($9, Target).
Glow Guidance: Apply bronzer using a large brush and tap most of it off the brush before you apply. Then dust onto cheeks, forehead, nose, chin and décolletage (places the sun would normally hit). Add a hint of glistening glow by dabbing a highlighting cream onto apples of cheeks.

Glow Guidance: Marilyn is a tanning guru so make sure you read her guidelines for prepping for the tan as well as aftercare.

In a DIY (do-it-yourself) era, there is no shortage of at-home self-tanning solutions. Long gone are the days of icky, sticky, looks-like-I-have-melted-chocolate-ice-cream-on-my-hands self-tanners. Sprays (we love L’Oreal Sublime Bronze ProPerfect Airbrush Tan, assorted colors, $11 at drugstores), buildable color options (Jergens Natural Glow Moisturizer, $9, drugstores), even wipes (try TanTowel Classic Self-Tan Towelette for Face & Body, $21, Sephora at Providence Place Mall) are making the scene and giving us a golden sheen!
Glow Guidance: Be sure to exfoliate and dry clean skin prior to self-tanning application. Do NOT moisturize ahead of time as it can cause slippage. Read instructions carefully as each product differs slightly in prep and aftercare routine.

Now you know how to glow on the go without risking skin cancer or premature aging from the sun or tanning salons. Enjoy and soak up the compliments.
