Kidoinfo Conference: Raising Community-Minded Kids

Kidoinfo, the go-to online resource for families in Providence and beyond, loves connecting parents with information, new ideas and their local community. This May they are talking about how to raise kids who are community-minded and socially responsible.

The concluding event for the 2010-2011 season will address the topic of Raising Community Minded Kids, tonight from 6-8pm at AS220. This panelist program will offer a discussion of how families, parents and caregivers can create meaningful connections to their communities and to impact real change in the world.  To support the ideas shared in this Conversation, Kidoinfo is publishing a Community Minded Kids Field Guide that will encompass ideas, resources, and examples of how families can engage in social responsibility.  The CMK Field Guide will include space for kids to reflect on their values and ideals, and make plans for a project that puts those values into action.

Featured panelists

The panelists at this event represent a broad spectrum of backgrounds:  Wendy Nilsson, Chair of the Friends of Brown Street Park and a partner in Nurslings, Catherine Carr Kelly, Executive Director of Central Square

Theater and Co-Founding Director of the I WAS THERE Project at Vartan Gregorian Elementary School, Johanna Corcoran, Family Enrichment Consultant and founder of Familytopia, and Jae Wyllie Willard, founder of New England Nannies.  The conversation will be led by moderator Wendy Lawton, Associate Director of Corporate and Foundation Relations at Brown University.

Typically attended by 50-100 interested community members, the Kidoinfo Conversation promises to be a fun and meaningful evening.  The Conversation series has garnered a reputation as a fun and informative way for Kidoinfo’s readers to foster a deep and tangible connection to one another and their community.  Community Minded Kids will also create a time and space for you to connect with local organizations and programs that are doing meaningful work to impact real change in our cities and state.
