Learn the Movie Business Without Breaking the Bank

Have you ever watched a television show or movie and said "I could do that!"?

Whether it is acting, directing, editing, or producing, one Providence company is offering the opportunity to learn learn and experience many facets of acting and film. Rhodywood Films recently unveiled their Fall workshop series in which they offer the opportunity to learn both on and off-camera techniques used in film production from movie maker, Mike Messier.  Messier has won multiple awards, including a regional Associated Press Award, as well as nomination for a Regional Emmy.  He has worked in several films, and has acted alongside such actors as Cybil Shepard, Wesley Snipes, Meryl Streep, and Elisabteh Shue. 

Rhodywood offers two different workshops, held at the Brooklyn Coffee Tea House in Providence's Smith Hill neighborhood.  Especially recommended for newcomers, the Director's Introduction allows students to learn how to become involved with the creation of independent film, television, and web video.  This two and a half hour course will be offered on two Mondays, October 28th and November 11th, both from 4:00 to 6:30 PM.

For students interested in exploring their dramatic side in a safe, creative, and supportive environment, Rhodywood Films also offers its C.O.R.E. A.C.T.I.N.G. workshop.  This course, led by Messier himself, takes place every Monday through November, from 7:00 to 9:00 PM, and covers the areas of scene study, dramatic improvisation, character development, and discussions about the business of acting. Several students of this course have gone on to appear in independent films, as well as being accepted into the Stella Adler Conservatory in New York.  According to student-turned-actress, Jami Tennille; "Mike is an attentive, insightful, and dedicated coach."

Rhodywood courses cost $25.00 per session, and require no advance reservation.
