Local Songwriter Parodies Gordon Fox and Calamari Legislation

Local singer and songwriter Billy Mitchell
Local songwriter Billy Mitchell has released two new Rhode Island political parody songs titled “Fox on the Run” and “Calamari.”

“The Rhode Island political scene is the gift that keeps on giving, so there’s lots of material available,” said Mitchell. “I’m sure there will be more of these to follow.”

“Fox on the Run” uses the traditional bluegrass song of the same name as the foundation for the story of the former RI Speaker of the House Gordon Fox’s brush with State and Federal law enforcement.

Based on the song “Volare,” “Calimari” is a tribute to the curious legislative push to name an official state appetizer.

A local mainstay for three decades

Mitchell has also written and recorded the Rhode Island based songs, “I Know a Guy”, “Meet Me Under the Shepard’s Clock” and “Galilee Gumbo."

He has been writing and performing for over 30 years at many local and regional venues, including AS220, Providence 375 Celebration at PPAC, Charlie Hall's Ocean State Follies, Sandywoods Center for the Arts, Fort Adams, The Brooklyn Coffee & Tea House and numerous Rhode Island waterfront venues as well as many radio and TV appearances.

Mitchell is a published ASCAP songwriter with 6 CDs to his credit, and has recently created an original Music show called “Boomer Power.”
