MUSIC: Built To Spill Blows Up the Met

Revolt Revolt
As with nearly every show you see, there are a few openers that you most likely have never heard of who put a lasting impression on you. First up was Revolt Revolt, a four piece indie band from Built To Spill's hometown of Boise, Idaho that were loud and emphatic with a lead singer with a voice crossing between the styles of Josh Zucker from F***ed Up and Lou Barlow from Sebadoh and Dinosaur Jr. They did a great job of setting the tone for the night with an amazing drummer being the backbone for their entire set.
Helvetia
Helvetia from Portland, Oregon had the middle slot on the bill, starting off kinda slow and ambient and then pulling it into full throttle with eclectic rhythms and sonically prolific chords that shook the floor. Jim Roth from Built To Spill was over in the left corner of the stage showcasing his unique brand on blistering guitar skills that left the crowd with their minds blown to smithereens.

A gust of wind came through the doors, filled the room with a cool breeze and the crowd congregated frenetically to see Built To Spill rock the joint. A spectacular set lead by the angelic, beautiful voice of guitarist Doug Martsch featuring "Dystopian Dream Girl", "Trimmed & Burning", "Three Years Ago Today", "Stab", "Velvet Waltz", "Hindsight" and "Carry The Zero", which had a stranger dancing on stage like a lunatic. After Built To Spill left the stage, the crowd cheered and cheered with levels of pandemonium rising to an all-time high. One of the best indie bands of the last two decades went back on for an epic encore of "Else", "Planting Seeds", "Made-Up Dreams" and "Goin' Against Your Mind", which had people dancing everywhere, on stage and off it. Built To Spill will be working on some new material so be on the lookout for a new album by next year.
