MUSIC: Melvins Sludge It Up at The Met

Tweak Bird
First up were a loud and emphatic two piece band based out of Los Angeles that call themselves Tweak Bird. Consisting of brothers Ashton and Caleb Bird on drums and guitar, the powerful duo had people up front headbanging with insane reckless abandon. Sounding as if the noise band Lightning Bolt were a lot more sludgy and used guitars instead of bass to go along with the drums, the pair were accented by Caleb's voice that's faintly similar to that of Dead Confederate's Hardy Morris. Listening to these guys was like getting an audial massage and they definitely kicked the night off right with their brand of no holds barred, intense rock & roll.
The Melvins
The Melvins graced a near packed house with their amazing presence and infectiously deviated sounds that you could do nothing but bop your head and rock out to. Starting off with Buzz's guitar sounding like breaking glass bottles, Crover's drumming nearly caving the stage in and Dunn bass resonating as if it was the soundtrack to a serial killer's death ritual, the trio then went into "Eye Flys" and everyone went absolutely nuts. A near two hour set highlighted by "National Hamster", "Worm Farm Waltz", "Leon vs. The Revolution", "Lizzy", "Hooch" and "A History of Drunks" rocked The Met to its core.

Concluding the solo with a crazy version of The Wizard of Oz's "Somewhere Over The Rainbow", Dunn, Buzz and Crover then went into a spectacular finale with "Shevil" to end a dynamic performance. The Melvins currently have a new album out called Freak Puke that was released this past June that you have to get as well.
