MUSIC: Route .44 Releases 'Poisoned The Well' at the Spot

It was Saturday night and everything was all right at The Spot in downtown Providence. Route .44 was releasing its third album, Poisoned The Well, much to the delight of the galvanized audience in attendance. Opening for Route .44 to celebrate the occasion were The Clyde Lawrence Band and the Rustic Overtones' side project Paranoid Social Club to complete an evening that no music lover would ever forget. Groovy rhythms and laid back vibes ruled the stage as a trifecta of unbelievable talent made their presence felt.

Clyde Lawrence Band

Starting off the bash were The Clyde Lawrence Band, possessing a sound that's a combination of the styles of Ben Folds, Ray Charles, Jonny Lang and Amos Lee. Sweet and soulful, these guys had the crowd rejoicing in applause in no time with "One More Time", "Real Bad Day", "Almost Home", a cover of Nelly's "Hot In Here" (isn't Nelly in jail?), "Wash Away", another cover featuring Britney Spears' "Toxic" which was 100 times better than the original and "Wake Up". The funky old school R&B voice of Clyde Lawrence is magnificent, I definitely want to see him and his awesome band again. Paranoid Social Club

Paranoid Social Club featuring members of Portland's Rustic Overtones were up next. With Dave Gutter on guitar and vocals, John Woods on bass and keyboards, Trent Gay on guitar and Craig Sala on drums, Paranoid Social Club's eclectic brand of psychedelic alternative punk rock had people going crazy. "The Fuzz", a groundbreaking cover of Black Sabbath's "Paranoid", "Save Me", "Theme Song", "Two Girls", "White Trash", "Suicide", "Where The Sun Don't Shine", "The Cable Hookup", "Chocolate", "Rhythm Is...", "Party Girl" and "Wasted" highlighted an emphatic set. Last up were Route .44 and their jazzy & bluesy gypsy rock & roll provided a fantastic finale to the night.
