NBC's The Voice: Potenza Continues Winning Ways

Smithfield native Sarah Potenza continued her dominance last night on NBC’s The Voice. Potenza wowed her coach Blake Shelton with a powerful rendition of “Wasted Love,” and moved on to the live “Playoff Round.”

Wearing her trademark white eyeglass frames, Potenza belted out the song, written and first performed by Matt McAndrew, runner up on Season 7 of the show. She defeated Brian Johnson, who was “stolen” just after the performance by Adam Levine, assuring he will move on in the competition.

Potenza grew up in Smithfield and attended Rhode Island College. She honed her chops in local coffeehouses, and formed “Sarah and the Tall Boys,” a country blues band with husband Ian Crossman in 2004.

Prior to her performance, Potenza shared with GoLocalProv that her Voice experience has been a dream come true, noting that she paid her dues playing over 300 shows a year.

Both artists now move to the Playoff Round of 20 contestants, where they will face live voting. As the competition heats up, Potenza remains a frontrunner. Check GoLocalProv for regular updates in the coming weeks.
