Nominee: Viola Davis (Best Performance by an Actress in a Motion Picture- Drama)

RI Connection: Raised in Central Falls since she was 2 months old; received her undergraduate theater degree (’88) and Doctorate in Fine Arts (’02) from Rhode Island College; recently donated $1,000 dollars to the Adams Memorial Library in Central Falls.

Nominee: Claire Danes (Best Performance by an Actress in a Television Series- Drama)

RI Connection: Parents met at RISD; Starred in Evening (2007) which took place in Newport where she met husband Hugh Dancy on set

The Iron Lady

Nominee: Meryl Streep (Best Performance by an Actress in a Motion Picture- Drama)

RI Connection: Her eighth great-grandfather, Lawrence Wilkinson, was one of the first Europeans to settle Rhode Island; shot January Vogue cover on the beach in Rhode Island; starred in Evening (2007) which took place in Newport

Nominee: Rooney Mara (Best Performance by an Actress in a Motion Picture- Drama)

RI Connection: starred in Tanner Hall (2009), filmed in RI
