NEW: Meryl Streep Donates $10,000 to Central Falls School
Meryl Streep, occasional Newport resident and Best Actress winner for her role as Margaret Thatcher in The Iron Lady, has just honored her fellow nominee (and Rhode Island product) Viola Davis with a $10,000 donation to a Central Falls charter school.
The Segue Institute for Learning, a charter school near and dear to Davis, received a check from Streep's Silver Mountain Foundation for the Arts yesterday. The two actresses had discussed the school's desire to find a building. Streep's gift will bring the school a big step closer to its goal.
The Segue Institute for Learning is one of Rhode Island's newest charter school, and serves students in grades 6-8 from Central Falls.
