Providence Author Chaika to Talk "Humans, Dogs, and Civilization" this Thursday

Providence author Elaine Ostrach Chaika will be the featured author on April 30 at 7pm at Books on the Square in Wayland Square, to speak about her new book, “Humans, Dogs and Civilization."

Chaika, a lifelong East Side resident, wrote “Humans, Dogs and Civilization” over the last three years, using her fascination, love and academically inquisitive nature about the dogs she’s owned throughout her lifetime, to deeply study theories of communication between dogs and man, addressing the myths that dogs evolved from wolves, and deepening her theory that dogs, in fact, contributed most significantly to the civilization of man.

The book's  thirty-one chapters begins with an original drawing by local artist, and first time book illustrator, Janet Croog, a graduate of the Paier College of Art, who lives in Connecticut.

Chaika says, “All dogs are amazing. No other animal has thrown its lot in with another species the way dogs have with humans. They think, they understand, & sympathize. There would be no Beethoven, Rock 'n Roll, Rembrandt, opera, symphonies, or scientists if dogs hadn't taken care of early humans.”

The event at Books on the Square is free and open to the public. Parking is available on-street and in a lot behind the bookstore.
