NEW: RI Views of Comet PANSTARRS
Success! After many nights of clouds prevented a local viewing of Comet PANSTARRS, a small contingent of stargazers (Tina Huestis, Glen Huestis, Tom Thibault, Rebecca Tremblay) chose an elevated location with a good unobstructed view to the west and finally observed and photographed this celestial visitor on Wednesday evening, March 14.
Though not visible to the naked-eye, binoculars and telescopes provided a decent view of the comet, which displayed a fairly bright head with a distinct fan-shaped tail once twilight deepened.
The accompanying image was obtained using a digital camera on a tripod and a time exposure.
