NEW: Top 10 National Marijuana Stories--Rhode Island's Got One

Dude. One of the biggest stoner stories of the year in America came straight out of Rhode Island, according to a national organization that's working to legalize marijuana.

All week, NORML.org, the cannabis loving non-profit, has been posting its Top 10 lists of marijuana-related rankings, to its NORML Stash blog. Their latest: "Top Ten Stupid Stoner Stories of 2011," features none other than RI State Representative Robert Watson at a mind-blowing #2.

Bob Watson: Karma's a bitch, dude.

NORML loved the irony of how the former leader of the RI House Republicans had drawn fire in February in the General Assembly when he said "I suppose if you’re a gay man from Guatemala who gambles and smokes pot, you probably think that we’re onto some good ideas here.” Watson refused demands to apologize and ended up getting arrested in Connecticut at a police checkpoint and was charged with driving under the influence. The fact that evidence of marijuana was discovered as well made the irony sweet. "Karma's a bitch, dude," wrote NORML's Stash blogger CannaBob.

Watson lost out for Stupidest Stoner Story of the year to a true Darwin Awards-style event involving an Oregan man who blew up his hotel room because he was cooking hash unsafely.

It's a reminder, writes CannaBob, that “smoking marijuana does not make one stupid; however, some stupid people do smoke marijuana."
