Brown: Great value
Brown University ranks the highest among RI schools, taking the #11 spot. Rhode Island's private university trails fellow Ivy League schools Princeton at #1, Yale at #2, Harvard at #5, University of Pennsylvania/Philadelphia at #6, and Columbia at #8. Only Dartmouth and Cornell ranked below Brown in value, at #14 and #21, respectively.
For the ranking, Kiplinger assessed five central measures: cost/financial aid, competitiveness, academic support, graduation rates, and student indebtedness. While Princeton and Brown, for example, may rival each other in overall cost, competitiveness and graduation rates, the financial burden to graduates is considerably different. According to Kiplinger, the average debt at graduation of a Princeton student is $5,225, while at Brown it's $22,468.
Providence College: Good value
Providence College makes the Top 50 list this year, with a #48 ranking. The private college graduates students with an average debt of $32,850.

Apart from the Ivy League schools, several other New England colleges come out as great values. Chief among them: MIT, ranking #9 this year, Boston College at #22, Brandeis at #23, Tufts at #24, and Clark University in Worcester at #28.
