NEW: Women's Fund of Rhode Island Marks 10th Anniversary

It was a night of celebration and rededication to change.

At the RISD Museum's Chace Center on Monday, the Women's Fund of Rhode Island marked ten years of strategic grant-making on behalf of Rhode Island women needing support, advocacy, and protection. The organization also released a report, Dollars to Sense: Making Social Change Matter.

More than 100 Rhode Islanders attended the event, which included a preview of WFRI's new "look" and direction for the next decade.

A decade of advocacy

The Fund started in November 2001, when a group of committed women partnered with the Rhode Island Foundation to create a field of interest fund. In 2005, the WFRI became independent, and has since

supported groups with emerging leadership or innovative ways of organizing for change—organizations that engage low-income girls, women from immigrant communities, women living in poverty without the educational opportunities necessary to succeed, and women who are victimized by abusers.
