Organize + Energize: 4 Areas to Declutter in July

We are half way through the year and if you’ve been following my articles and decluttering each month, you’ll realize that you probably feel a little lighter and your home is flowing with positive energy! If you haven’t decluttered any spaces yet, it’s never too late. You can find all of the articles for each month here on GoLocalWorcester.

This month, I’ll keep the projects light. Here are 4 spaces to declutter.

Shed. Last month I had you declutter and organize the garage. If you have a shed, it’s time to tackle this. Follow the same process. Everything comes out and you can categorize items on the lawn. Give the shed a good cleaning when it’s empty and place items back in according to how you function. If there are winter items in the shed, you can categorize the areas in the shed by season. If you don’t have a shed, you get a break this month!

Desk Drawer.  Pick a drawer, any drawer and start emptying. Did you know working with your hands for 10 minutes helps clear your mind? Take inventory of what’s in this drawer. What can live in other spaces in the home and what can get categorized and live here? If you need to purchase drawer organizers, be sure to take inventory of what’s going back in the drawer. Measure the space and then purchase drawer organizers to match what you have and purchase ones that will fit the space. You’ll find once you’re through with this drawer you’ll be motivated to move onto other drawers. Keep going!

Dust collectors. Walk into each room in your home and take a long look around the room. When was the last time you did this? Find anything that’s collecting dust. It could be magazines, knick knacks, plants, books, and the list goes on. Take a look at what’s collecting dust and figure out if you really need it!

Email. This one will give some people a headache. This is something you can do sitting outside while enjoying the weather. How many of you have hundreds or even thousands (I’ve seen it) clogging up your inbox? Take a look at what is in your inbox.  Email overload is a distraction and it reduces productivity and it will stress you out every time you open your email. Once you tackle this and get on a good schedule with checking your email and categorizing them and staying on top of them, you’ll reduce one little stressor in your life.

Mark these projects on your calendar for July. Tackle one a week! Take note to how you feel when you’re through!
