Organize + Energize: 5 Ways to Feel Comfortable in your Home

How does your home make you feel? Does your home cause you stress or anxiety? Does it drain your energy and make you feel sick or tired?  Are you in a funk because you just aren’t comfortable in your home? These are terrible feelings to have, especially when your home is making you feel this way.

Here are 5 things you can do to feel more comfortable:

Unpack and get settled.  Has it been weeks, months, or years since you’ve moved into your home? If you still have unopened boxes, ask yourself why.  Why are you procrastinating? Is it that you haven’t had the time or do you get too overwhelmed just thinking about it? Make this a priority and get settled in your home.

Get stuck in the minutiae of your home. I’ll often hear people say that washing dishes, folding laundry, opening the mail, filing papers, and putting things back after using them are trivial tasks in the home.  They don’t make them a priority because there are more pressing issues to tend to.  These tasks keep the home functioning like a well-oiled machine. When all of these tasks get neglected, the home becomes a stressful place to live.

Create a purpose for each room. Do you have a room where the door always stays shut? You walk into the room, throw things in and immediately close the door. The room doesn’t have a purpose so things get thrown in there and before you know it, you have a room that looks like a war zone. These types of rooms create the most stress.  Have you always wanted a home office, a meditation room, an exercise room or a reading room? You can have that! Get these rooms decluttered and organized. Create a purpose for these rooms and enjoy your new space.

Make your home a priority. Take the time to write down all of the areas of your home that are causing you stress. Put a plan into motion and create a timeline. The more you procrastinate, the longer you are going to be stressed to the max. If these rooms are small rooms that you need to get organized, they should take no longer than 3 hours to tackle. You have 3 hours to spare, right? Your house is worth it. Your health is worth it.

Hire a professional. If you just can’t wrap your head around any of this and it’s just too overwhelming, it’s time to hire a professional. They can help you get to where you need to be in less time than you think. They will help you create the home you’ve always dreamed of having.

You won’t believe what will happen once you get your home back! You will feel like a weight has been lifted and you can breathe again. You’ll want to spend more time there. You’ll be happy and healthier because you are living in a home that you love.
