Read to Succeed Awards $215K in College Scholarships to Providence Students

Read to Succeed has awarded $215,000 in college scholarships to students at Community Preparatory School, Bishop McVinney Elementary School and Highlander Charter School. 

The scholarships went to 4th, 5th, 6th and 7th grade students in Providence over the course of three separate ceremonies that took place this week.

Students from Community Preparatory School, Highlander Charter School Bishop McVinney Catholic Elementary School have already received $381,000 in scholarships and over 4,000 books since the program started.

Read to Succeed is a nonprofit organization was founded in 2007 by Ralph and Barbara Papitto. 

The organization is dedicated to increasing literacy rates in the low-income, largely minority community of South Providence.
