Rhody Ramble--New Summer Program for Families

This summer, a new program aims to get families having all kinds of fun at Rhode Island's historic sites. The new Rhody Ramble offers families with kids aged 5-12 an opportunity to explore 21 historic Rhode Island places this summer. Created to help kids and families engage with Rhode Island’s unique history, the Rhody Ramble is a program of the Historic Sites Coalition of Rhode Island, which is led by Preserve Rhode Island.

Following Rhody the Rambler

The program is a summer adventure where kids follow mascot Rhody the Rambler (based on a heritage breed RI Red Rooster) around the state. The program’s brochure functions as a passport, with kids collecting stickers at each site. An online contest for prizes is the culmination of this interactive summer program which runs from Memorial Day to Labor Day. With events such as summer festivals, music concerts, scavenger hunts and tours for kids, families can choose activities that suit their interests.

Event highlights include Breakfast in the Barnyard at Coggeshall Farm, Civil War Living History Weekend at Historic Fort Adams, Concerts in the Garden at Lippitt House, Family Fun Fridays at Blithewold Mansion, Gardens & Arboretum, Family Movie Night at Providence Athenaeum, Favorite Doll Tea at Babcock-Smith House Museum, Fly a Kite Day at Watson Farm, Learning Colonial Games and Crafts at Smith-Appleby House, Old-Fashioned Garden Party at Hearthside House Museum, Please Touch Tour at Wilbor House Museum, Strawberry Festival at Smith’s Castle, and Windmill Wednesday at Prescott Farm. Funded by grants from the Rhode Island Foundation, the state’s community foundation, and the National Trust for Historic Preservation, the Rhody Ramble connects families with 21 historic places throughout Rhode Island. Participating sites in the Rhody Ramble are members of the Historic Sites Coalition of Rhode Island (HSCRI), a network of historic places open to the public. Founded in 2007, the HSCRI brings together stewards of historic sites to share resources, exchange ideas and promote Rhode Island’s unique places. The HSCRI is a program of Preserve Rhode Island, a statewide preservation advocacy organization. Membership is open to all historic sites in Rhode Island that are open to the public.
