RI Music Community Rallies Around Brown Bird's David Lamb

From my time covering the Rhode Island music scene extensively since my days as a Radio DJ at 90.7 WXIN and a music journalist at The Anchor while I was a communications major at Rhode Island College until now, there have been very few bands that encompass the grand mix of amazing talent and genuine kindness as much as Brown Bird. I had the pleasure of meeting David Lamb and MorganEve Swain at The Low Anthem's album release show for Smart Flesh back in the spring of 2011 at an abandoned pasta sauce factory in Central Falls. Right from the moment I met them they struck me with such humility and gratitude as well as playing a dynamic set during that evening. I've been a huge fan ever since and every time I hear about Brown Bird playing in The Ocean State my eyes light up like a 5 year old on Christmas morning.

A medical emergency while on tour

Due to being a vibrant supporter of the duo and a person who admires the people David and MorganEve are, I'm compelled to reach out to the public about the dire need of assistance Brown Bird needs right now. While on their latest tour, David was admitted to a hospital in Houston, TX due to the feeling of fatigue and the shortness of breath due to him combating the flu-like symptoms that so many of us New Englanders face whenever the seasons change. He has had several blood transfusions and has undergone several tests in order to figure out the cause of his illness and as I write this David has yet to be diagnosed. Spending over a week in the hospital is never good, especially when being a touring musician these days doesn't always equate to having the best health insurance coverage. In fact, David doesn't have any health insurance and the cost of his medical care is piling up.

Back in RI--help is on the way

As of this past Saturday, David and MorganEve are back in Rhode Island seeking further treatment for David's illness that has yet to be determined. Due to this unfortunate event, Brown Bird has cancelled a bunch of their shows all over the country and there is no definite date when we'll see a crown jewel of music in The Ocean State on the road again and gracing their talents to rabid fans wherever they go. There is something, though, we can do to help.

Brown Bird has put together a fundraising page via the website youcaring.com to help cover the costs of helping David get back on his feet, strum that guitar and sing that bluesy, raspy voice of his. They've already reached their goal of $40,000 but due to no timetable on when David will be out of the hospital, there is no such thing as enough help. Log on to the fundraiser page and do what you can to assist in the recovery of one of Rhode Island finest musicians and more importantly, one of the state's finest people. As the times get tougher, the best we can all do as people is help the ones who need it the most. Please do your part and do what you can.
