RIMHOF Inductees Past and Present (photo: Rick Farrell)The Rhode Island Music Hall of Fame announced their 2016 inductees yesterday in the Museum space at the Hope Artiste Village in Pawtucket. A total of eight acts are represented in the 2016 group including Greg Abate, Frankie Carle, Bill Harley, Carl Henry, Carol Sloane, Sugar Ray & The Bluetones, Richard Walton, and The Young Adults / The Fabulous Motels / Rudy Cheeks.
It was also announced that this year's induction ceremonies and concert events will take place on three days – April 21, April 24 and April 30 – at three separate locations as RIMHOF celebrates its fifth year of operation.
Robert Billington, Chair of RIMHOF noted, "Our Induction Ceremony and concert in April has become the place for a 'who's who' in Rhode Island music. It is the place to be and be seen as we continue to showcase the fascinating history of Rhode Island's musical heroes."
This year's induction ceremony on April 24 will see eight more displays unveiled celebrating the 2016 inductees and bringing the total to 43 inductee exhibits produced in just five years.
Concert Details
This year's jazz inductions will take place on Thursday, April 21, at 7:00 p.m. at Chan’s in Woonsocket. Honorees include Greg Abate, Carol Sloane and Frankie Carle. Tickets for the April 21 event are $15.00 and the evening will include inductions and a performance by Greg Abate and Carol Sloane backed by an all-star trio consisting of pianist Tim Ray and 2015 Rhode Island Music Hall of Fame inductees Marty Richards on drums and Marty Ballou on bass.

The 2016 RIMHOF Induction Ceremony and Concert is set for Sunday, April 24, 2:00 p.m. at The Met and Hall of Fame itself, both located within the Hope Artiste Village complex in Pawtucket. Sunday's afternoon event will include performances by The Young Adults, Sugar Ray & The Bluetones, and Bill Harley who will be performing a set of folk music. The concert will be preceded by the unveiling of all eight 2016 inductee exhibits. Tickets for the April 24 event are $20.00 in advance and $25.00 at the door.
On Saturday, April 30, 2:00 p.m., Bill Harley will be presenting a family show featuring music from his award-winning children’s recordings at the Blackstone River Theatre in Cumberland. Tickets for the April 30 event are $6.00 for children and $12.00 for adults with a family cap of $36.00.
Hall of Fame
The Rhode Island Music Hall of Fame, formed in 2011, is a nonprofit organization dedicated to celebrating, honoring, and preserving the legacy of Rhode Island musicians, educators and industry professionals who have made significant contributions to both the national and Rhode Island music scene.
The Music Hall of Fame initiative," says Rick Bellaire, vice chair of RIMHOF, "provides a great opportunity to not only acknowledge Rhode Island's musical greats and celebrate their achievements, but to finally have an organization whose primary goal is to promote and preserve Rhode Island's rich musical heritage in all its forms. With actual exhibit space, coupled with our online digital archive, we will have in place the tools to curate and showcase the best of Rhode Island's musical artistry."

The 2015 Local Music Scene
Brown Bird
Critically acclaimed RI band Brown Bird released Axis Mundiin April, their final album due to the untimely death of co-founder Dave Lamb. While fighting leukemia in 2013, Lamb along with musical partner and wife MorganEve Swain wrote and recorded the brilliant album. Its folk based, with compelling stories backed by Middle Eastern melodies with a rock beat. You can find it in a variety of formats at most area record stores.
The Copacetics
Reggae/Ska band The Copacetics released their self titled album earlier this year. The album is a lot of fun as are their concerts around the state all year long. Check it out here and find it at record stores around the region.
The Schemers
It was a big year for one of RI's greatest rock band of all time, The Schemers. First, they were inducted into the RI Music Hall of Fame and then they released a new album, The Last Beach. Its an album rich in the Schemers classic sound with a heavy dose of Americana. You can find it in local record stores or order it online here at Emerson Torrey's Satellite Studios web site.
Jazz - Abate and Woods
A major release is coming in January from internationally recognized sax man and RI resident, Greg Abate. He's joined by lengendary tenor Phil Woods, who passed away recently, and recorded his final live album at Chan's in the summer of 2014. The Red Pennys
The Red Pennys are a honky tonk Rockabilly band with a foot stompin' sound. Check them out tonight at Nick-A-Nees in Providence and then look for their 2015 release Taking Flight at What Cheer Records or your favorite record store. You can also find it online here.
Josh Grabert
Josh Grabert's stunning acoustic recording from last summer is a thing of raw beauty. Grabert, who also plays in the award winning rock band Torn Shorts, recorded The Shred Sessions in a backyard studio during the brutal winter of 2015. You can find the album here. (photo: Michael Civoli)
The Dust Ruffles
The Dust Ruffles are a pop/rock band from RI known for their catchy songs featuring four part harmonies. Their recent EP Romeo, is available in digital format here. You can also check Copper, a solo album recently released from guitarist Tammy LaForrest, here.
Chris Monti
Singer-songwriter Chris Monti released his supurb blues-based acoustic album Box Guitar this fall. You can find the CD here or a digital version here. You can hear selections from the album at his 40th birthday bash Friday Dec 4 at Nick-A-Nees.
Eat Crepes
Eat Crepes is an synth centered indie pop band from Warwick who just released a new albumEscrepe Artist. Their sound is bright and upbeat - check out the digital version of their album here.
Consuelo's Revenge
Consuelo's Revenge is a Providence based collective of musicians who just released a high energy album Mercy. They're a hard band to categorize - gypsy folk with a helping of neo-soul, or as the band calls it Amouricana. You can find the CD at "In Your Ear" records in Warren or online here.
