"Messiah Got Soul" is a contemporary gospel interpretation of the 1741 Christmas oratorio by George Frideric Handel. The concert, first produced in 1990 by Quincy Jones, has bee widely praised for its use of multiple genres of Africa-American music, including spirituals, blues, ragtime, big band, jazz-fusion, R&B, and hip-hop.  Songs include Comfort Ye, And The Glory of the Lord, And He Shall Purify, For Unto Us a Child Is Born, and Hallelujah.

“‘Messiah Got Soul’ proves that there is still new ground to be covered in traditional music. It not only translates an enduring classic into contemporary gospel, full of innovative twists and  new sensations, it also forces us to examine our relationship to the European classical tradition and the wellsprings of our own native religious song,” said musicologist Dr. Clarice LaVerne Thompson, an award-winning composer and musical director, as well as the artistic director and co-founder of RPM Voices.

RPM Voices’ featured soloists include Kia A. Baird, Gales Ferry, Conn.; Janett 'Becky' Bass, Providence; Delbert Leon Collins, Central Falls; Melvin Johnson, Tulsa, Okla.; Rose Weaver, Providence; and trumpeter Michael C. Lewis, New York City.
