According to the sanctuary, Jack and his sister, Diane, were not expected to survive more than a few weeks, yet next month “will mark the 7-year anniversary of their arrival at West Place.”
Located in Tiverton, West Place Animal Sanctuary calls itself East Bay’s “largest and most diverse home to rescued animals. The sanctuary is located on eight stunning acres of historic farmland in Tiverton, Rhode Island, nestled between Weetamoo Woods and Pardon Gray Preserve.”
About Jack
At the announcement of his passing, the sanctuary shared the following, asking for coverage to “raise awareness about all farm animal welfare.”
Jack overcame so much adversity in his life, and he touched thousands of lives here in Rhode Island and throughout Southern New England.
He recovered from severe neglect, was a cancer survivor, and benefited from acupuncture in his senior years as he battled arthritis.
Jack’s life embodied the sanctuary’s mission of rescue, rehabilitation, and responsible care for abused and neglected farm animals.
[He] was humanely euthanized on January 30, 2026, following a sudden medical episode believed to be a stroke.
Jack, who would have been 17 this year, was laid to rest on the sanctuary grounds with his winter blanket and his favorite snack, tortilla chips.
"West Place encourages those wishing to honor Jack’s life to make a memorial donation at westplace.org/donate to assist with the daily care of Diane, the other pigs, and the rest of Jack’s farm animal friends," the Sanctuary added.
