WaterFire to Feature Balliamo Dance Collective Performing Within Howard Ben Tré Exhibit This Sunday

The exhibit at WaterFire Arts Center will come alive on Sunday.
This Sunday, WaterFire Arts Center, located at 475 Valley Street in Providence, will host an "afternoon of art and magic as two disciplines collide in a rare and limited event."

A tribute arts exhibition in honor of Rhode Island sculptor Howard Ben Tré will be paired with the multidisciplinary performance of the Balliamo Dance Collective, brought to life by Balliamo Creative Director Annamaura Silverblatt.

Two showings will be held, one at 3:30 p.m., the other at 4:40 p.m. Admission is free but donations are encouraged. Masks and social distancing will be enforced for everyone's safety.

The exhibit will include performances by poet laureate Christopher Johnson and violinist Kevin "Big Lux" Lowther. The featured dancers are Amy Burns, Hannah Petrarca, Nancy Reed and Caroline Zanni.

“In the early '90s, when I was president of Providence Dance Alliance, I initiated a program for local dance artists and companies to perform in the main gallery of the RISD museum each last Sunday of the month. The experience was a magical synthesis of two art forms – dance and visual art," said Annamaura Silverblatt, Creative Director of Balliamo Dance Collective

"I am delighted that the WaterFire Art Center asked me as artistic director of Balliamo Dance Collective to have the company perform as part of their current exhibit: 'Private Visions, Public Ideals, the Legacy of Howard Ben Tré.' I initially met with the dancers at the exhibit to view the works and discuss ideas for improvised pieces," Silveblatt added. "From that exploration, I developed four different segments which will demonstrate the artistic talents of the dancers. Accompanying the performers with his own improvisations will be Kevin 'Big Lux' Lowther on the violin. We will also have the pleasure of presenting the noted poet, Christopher Johnson, who will share two of his works.” -

Balliamo Dance Collective's mission is to foster, present and preserve the works of choreographers and dancers who represent a wide spectrum of dance ideas and styles. In particular, Balliamo supports the works of artists from the local community through both public performances and outreach programming. Balliamo showcases modern dance in collaboration with local artists of all disciplines.   https://www.balliamodancecollective.org/
