Woody Allen
The prolific (and controversial) film director brought big time Hollywood to Rhode Island when reports first had Allen coming to the Ocean State for his latest project early in June, bringing in high-profile stars Joaquin Phoenix and Emma Stone.

Soon Allen was seen setting up shop in Newport, shooting on Broadway and around Salve Regina, before moving to Providence where production crews were spotted throughout the city, from the Classic Cafe and Loie Fuller on the West Side, to Arlington Avenue on the East Side.

Rhode Island has been no stranger to being the location for some great films, with a film office headed up by the hardworking Steve Feinberg.

"They do not understand the purpose of tax credits, which is to support and build economic strength in a sector of the Rhode Island economy that has some strong assets with potential to grow. The purpose of the tax credit was to build a film and television sector in Rhode Island."

While the state's film tax credit continues be subject to debate, the star wattage -- and sense of pride -- when movie starts (or music stars, in the case of Taylor Swift) choose Rhode Island over other options is undeniable.  It reminds us that despite everything, we are the biggest little state in the union.
