You know you’re from Barrington if you’ve ever dreamed of becoming a professional golfer.

Barrington is all about golf, which isn't a surprise considering the town has been home to three PGA Tour golfers: Brad Faxon (8 PGA Tour wins), Brett Quigley (3 PGA Tour wins), and Dana Quigley (New England PGA Hall of Famer).  And what’s more, Barrington also produced 11-time Women’s Golf Association champion Julie Greene.

Borrington High

You know you're from Barrington when more than one of your friends from an outside town still thinks its funny to quote There's Something About Mary to refer to you being from Borrington.

It may be 16 years later, but chances are you still have at least one friend who likes to reference the flashback scene at the beginning of the hit Farrelly Brothers comedy. In case you don’t remember the quote, Ben Stiller’s character Ted delivers it when his friend tells him that Mary (Cameron Diaz) is going to prom with someone from Barrington High.

“Woogie from Borrington High? Sound like a loser.”

Vienna Bakery

You know you’re from Barrington if you’ve ever picked up a sheet of bakery pizza from Vienna Bakery for a birthday, graduation, 4th of July party, or all of the above.

Vienna Bakery has been a mainstay on Maple Avenue since 1935 – serving up tons of Italian specialties like bakery pizza, Cannolis, Sfogliatelli, Tiramisu, Venetian Torte, and Italian Rum Cake.

One Hundred Acre Cove

You know you’re from Barrington if you’ve used the boat ramp at One Hundred Acre Cove.

Also referred to as the Walker Farm Boat Ramp, this boat launch provides access to the Barrington River at the south end of One Hundred Acre Cove. The site allows residents to access the Barrington River at the southern end of One Hundred Acre Cove, which flows into the Warren River and then into Narragansett Bay.

RI Lacework Factory

You know you’re from Barrington if you know where the the Rhode Island Lacework Factory is.

Formerly located on Bay Spring Avenue, the Rhode Island Laceworks Factory provided jobs for Barrington residents for nearly 90 years before it shut down in 1990. The factory was originally located in Pawtucket, but moved to Barrington in 1906. The property has since been transformed into Atria Bay Spring Village, an assisted living facility for the elderly.

RISD Beach

You know you're from Barrington if you've walked your dog along RISD Beach.

Popular amongst RISD and Brown students, this dog-friendly beach is known for its shell-covered sandy beaches and warm waters. As its name suggests, this beach is located next to RISD’s satellite campus in the Nayatt Road section of Barrington.                     

Barrington College

You know you’re from Barrington if you attended or know someone that attended Barrington College.

Originally located in Spencer, Massachusetts, Barrington College was a four-year Christian liberal arts college.  The school relocated to Rhode Island in 1950 and was renamed the Providence Bible Institute. From 1950 to 1960 had two campuses – one in Providence and another in Barrington. In 1960, the school was renamed Barrington College after the Providence campus was sold. In 1985, the Barrington campus was closed after the school merged with Wrentham’s Gordon College.

Barrington Little League

If you grew up in Barrington, chances are you played for the Barrington Little League.

For 75 years, the Barrington Little League has enabled the town’s youth to play both baseball and softball. In addition to teaching youngsters how to have fun, the Barrington Little League has also taught sportsmanship and respect to countless Barrington residents – young and old.

Peck Playground

You know you’re from Barrington if you remember playing at and/or bringing your children to Peck Playground.

Situated behind City Hall, Peck Playground was built in 1985, but closed in 2004. In 2007, a new and redesigned playground named Kids Kove opened. The playground now boasts rope pyramids, slides, tower, and rope bridge.

Old Barrington Shopping Center

You know you’re from Barrington if you shopped at the old Barrington Shopping Center.

The Barrington Shopping Center may now consist of a Shaw’s Supermarket, Citizens Bank, and CVS Pharmacy, but that wasn’t always so. When the shopping plaza opened in 1948, it’s primary businesses were Almacs, a former supermarket chain, and the now defunct department store Cherry & Webb.

Osamequin Nature Trail

You know you’re from Barrington if you’ve hiked at the Osamequin Nature Trail, but might not have known the name of it.

Located along One Hundred Acre Cove, this nature preserve touts 38 acres of nature trails and a bird sanctuary. The hiking trail includes woods and wetlands, and also features water foul.

CVS Caremark Charity Classic

You know you’re from Barrington if you’ve attended the CVS Caremark Charity Classic.

This two-day professional golf tournament has been held annually at the Rhode Islanders since 1999. Hosted by Barrington native Brad Faxon and fellow Rhode Islander Billy Andrade, this event is an unofficial event on the PGA Tour. Last year’s winners were Steve Stricker and Bo Van Pelt.
