Baffoni Farms Talks Turkey On LIVE

Donald Baffoni, Baffoni Farms
The Baffoni family has been raising all-natural poultry for the Rhode Island community since 1935.

The 80-acre farm in Johnston houses nearly 25,000 chickens and 1,200 turkeys all fed a diet free of any hormones or additives. From grandfathers to grandchildren, fourth-generation Baffoni's are now taking part with the farm's production.

Donald Baffoni, a grandson of the farm's founder, joined GoLocal LIVE’s Chelsea Guay to discuss the rapid growth of the business over the past twenty years, as well as give our viewers the scoop on all things turkey this Holiday season.

With the new millennium came a desire to purchase local goods and produce and in turn boosted the demand for local, cage-free chicken. In order to join these efforts and cater to the growing number of local farm supporters, Baffoni's established a business strategy that allowed expansion.

Currently, Baffoni's products can be found on the menu in over 50 local restaurants and at several farmers markets across the state. All the while, Baffoni's was awarded Rhode Island's first and only USDA certification for an on-site poultry slaughterhouse in early 2014.

Much of the discussion on GoLocal LIVE  - WATCH ABOVE -  was about the success and expansion of the business as well as the process of filling orders for the Thanksgiving season.

As expected, Thanksgiving is a particularly busy time for the poultry farm. The farm raises about 1,200 additional turkeys for the holiday and starts taking orders in October until they sell out, which has already happened for this season. It’s a major estimation game for the farm as they attempt to manage orders for birds while they’re still growing.
