URI’s Bozzi on Partnering With Amgen for “Biotech Experience” for RI Students

University of Rhode Island Professor of Chemistry and Biotechnology Ed Bozzi, PhD joined GoLocalProv News Editor Kate Nagle on GoLocal LIVE, where he spoke to how the university — and one of the state’s biggest companies — have been partnering to invest in educational opportunities for Rhode Island students.

“It concerns me to read about and hear about so much negative news from both the Providence school system -- I live in Providence, so I was concerned about that — but also what’s happening regionally in the state with education,” said Bozzi.

“So I wanted to describe and expose a program that the University of Rhode Island has in conjunction with Amgen — and how we’re making a very positive impact in the state of Rhode Island in the STEM area,” said Bozzi.

With funding from Amgen, Bozzi spoke to purchasing “biotechnology kits” that URI loans to high schools, which keep the equipment for three weeks to do experiments — and then the equipment is returned for other schools to then use.
