LIVE: Ripple Effect - RI Hospital’s Chief of Trauma Dr. Adams On Impact of Impaired Driving Crashes

Dr. Charles Adams
Chief of the division of trauma and surgical critical care at Rhode Island Hospital, Charles Adams, Jr., MD, appeared on GoLocal LIVE as part of the ongoing feature of "The Ripple Effect," the Rhode Island Department of Transportation's campaign to bring awareness to the impact of impaired driving.

Adams says “The Ripple Effect” is a good name for the campaign because the impact goes far beyond those involved in a crash. He explains first responders, hospital staff, and family members are touched in some way.

Adams says that working in trauma, most of what they take care of is preventable and it’s up to people to make the right choices when it comes to driving impaired.

“Don’t do it,” Adams says, “do the right thing before you make a mistake. Think about the consequences.”

“When your life has been destroyed, you’ve destroyed other lives, you can’t undo that,” says Adams.

Dr. Adams is an employee of University Surgical Associates.
