LIVE: “We’re Not Just A Team, We’re a Family” Miller Preps for Special Olympics RI Summer Games

Special Olympics Rhode Island athlete and Board of Directors member Maegen Miller says competing is awesome and fellow athletes become family.

“We’re not just a team, we’re a big family,” said Miller, who’s been competing in sports like Alpine skiing, unified sailing, and unified croquet for 20 years says.

Miller says competition is exhilarating and she’d like to win when she swims in competition during the Special Olympics Rhode Island State Summer Games at the University of Rhode Island from June 2-4, but she said there’s nothing more heartwarming or eye opening than seeing her friends on the podium getting medals and ribbons.

For goals, Miller says she’ll stick to the Special Olympics Athlete Oath: Let me Win.  But if I Cannot Win, Let Me Be Brave in the Attempt. 

Miller says she sticks with that oath not only in competition, but in her everyday life.
