RI Cannabis Association’s Cavanagh: “We Expect an Expansion of the Program”

Michael Cavanagh
Michael Cavanagh with the Rhode Island Cannabis Association joined GoLocal News Editor Kate Nagle on LIVE, where he spoke to the General Assembly’s decision not to permit licensing of additional compassion centers, as proposed by Governor Gina Raimondo.

“I’m a licensed cultivator — like many of us, we’ve come through the caregiver and patient portion of the program for years since medical cannabis was legalized in 2006,” said Cavanagh.

“We’re confused by the decision by the Assembly to date, and we urge them to reconsider immediately,” said Cavanagh. “At the end of 2016 the government chose to enact emergency regulations to license cultivators like ourselves  — over 30 licenses have been handed out, approximately 40 more pre-approved, and another 40 yet to be reviewed by the state.”

“With that many licenses handed out to businesses, and that many fees collected by the state, and that much activity, and that many jobs, we expect an expansion of the program,” said Cavanagh.
