Federal Hill’s Club Seven Can Reopen — But Lawyer Says He “Doesn’t Believe Club Will”

Attorney Nick Hemond for Club Seven on Federal Hill, which has been closed since the stabbing death of Stephen Cabral occurred a block away from the establishment on June 30, appeared on GoLocal LIVE on Wednesday after the club was allowed to reopen — which he said he “doesn’t believe it will.”

After the Providence Board of Licenses voted to close the club permanently, the Department of Business Regulation ruled Wednesday that the club can reopen with a number of strict guidelines, including an 11 p.m. closure — but Hemond says he doesn’t see that happening.

“To be honest, before this started, we were talking about an exit strategy for the owner of this establishment there have been a number of people interested in both buying the business and the building itself,” said Hemond. “Even if they had given him everything in the world and dismissed the case, I don’t know that this club owner would have reopened in the immediate future.
